Cisco Chain of Lakes
The famous Cisco Chain of Lakes has fifteen interconnected lakes with over 270 miles of scenic shoreline. Three of those lakes border both Michigan and Wisconsin. Enjoy the beautiful scenery, excellent fishing, and boating. Great fishing for walleye, northern, silver and tiger musky, small mouth and large mouth bass, trout, cisco and a variety of panfish including bluegill, perch and crappie. Thousand Island Lake produced the state record silver musky. Wildlife abounds on this peaceful chain. Fabulous summer scenery, spectacular fall colors, awesome snowfalls, and spring's Northwoods awakening will bring you back time after time.

Lac Vieux Desert
Lac Vieux Desert is the headwaters of the Wisconsin River and proud home of the world record musky. This beautiful 4,200-acre boundary lake is nestled between the Ottawa and Nicolet National Forests. Anglers return year after year to fish for silver and tiger musky, as well as walleye, northern pike, small and largemouth bass, and panfish. Water sports, hunting, winter sports and relaxation are right at your doorstep when you visit Lac Vieux Desert.

Ottawa National Forest
The Ottawa National Forest offers spectacular opportunities for camping, hiking, canoeing, fishing and hunting. Ten national forest campgrounds are available in the area for spring, summer and fall camping. The Ottawa Visitor Center and gift shop is open daily to the public daily.

Sylvania Recreation Area
Sylvania Recreation Area has a 48-unit campground, an information and recreation station, pavilion with showers, beach and picnic area, plus boat landings on Clark, Crooked, and Long Lakes. Plenty of room to camp, picnic, hike or swim.

Sylvania Wilderness
Leave your motors and wheels behind and enjoy the solitude of this fantastic 19,000-acre wilderness area. Many of the lakes are connected by portages, and campsites have been established. Known for its virgin forests and pristine lakes, Sylvania has special rules and regulations in place to protect its fragile environment. The hiking trails and forests are great for exploring. Enjoy fishing, hunting, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. Sylvania is Mother Nature's year-round playground.

Biking
An extensive system of paved biking trails through the woodlands, and along the many lakes and streams dot the Land O' Lakes region. Mountain bike enthusiasts will enjoy everything from maintained and signed loops to challenging cross-country travel.

Canoeing and Kayaking
Paddle sports in Wisconsin appeal to folks of every age and every skill level. Over 500 lakes and 2,000 miles of streams make the Northwoods one of the most popular destinations in Wisconsin for both beginners and experts. Options range from Lake Superior sea caves to whitewater rivers and languid streams.

Fishing
The Northwoods area is home to one of the largest concentrations of freshwater lakes on earth. Vilas County has over 1,300 lakes and 73 rivers and streams which boast some of the best bass, walleye, musky and trout fishing in North America. Our fly fishing and ice fishing are also spectacular.

Golf
Centrally located within the Wisconsin Northwood’s are 14 golf courses, offering a wide variety of terrain, forested beauty and fairway length to accommodate and challenge any golfer. Tree lined fairways and expertly manicured greens make golf in the Northwoods fun for the entire family.

Hiking
Hundreds of miles of hiking and backpacking trails through the rugged wilderness - from short, meandering walks to longer treks that take you to waterfalls and other points of interest.

Horseback Riding
Visit the Northwoods for a ride through some of the prettiest scenery east of the Rockies. You can enjoy a gentle walk or a spirited canter with an expert guide to lead the way.
