"How do we get started?"

The process starts with an initial meeting to discuss the scope of your project, your style preferences, ideas, budget and general design concepts. Over the years we have created a Design Development Questionnaire to help us get a better understanding for how you live and the way your home will be used. This broad range of thought provoking questions addresses everything from size of the project to desired finishes.

"How does our project get designed?"

Every Benson Builder design is unique and suited to the personal needs and lifestyles of our customers. Our experienced staff will coach you through the design process based on your input and feedback. In addition to creating a plan that is exciting and one-of-a-kind, we will also make recommendations on cost saving measures where appropriate and areas to incorporate unique design elements. As many of the homes we build are secondary residences, our staff has become very proficient using email throughout the design process so that the need for face-to-face interaction is limited.

"Does Benson only build large log homes?"

Admittedly Benson Builders has had the distinct privilege of building some of the finest log homes in the Northwoods. Although many of our homeowners seek the traditional Northwoods look, log is not all that we do. Incorporating a variety of different materials into a design puts a unique spin on tradition. Cedar shakes and board-and-batten combined with the old-school look of vertical logs creates a classic, rustic look without compromising the Northwoods feel the majority of our customers are seeking. In the past we have built many different styles of homes and welcome the challenge that comes with trying something new.

"What if I want to work with my own architect?"

Although our team creates the plans for most of the homes we build, a number of them are designed by our homeowner’s own architect. Our staff knows how to co-manage a project with an independent architect and is respectful of the creative authority they generally demand during the life of a project.

"Can you build from my plans?"

As long as you own the rights to the plans and are not infringing on any copyrights, Benson will gladly build from your plans. If for some reason the plans are not perfect, we can make modifications and recommend areas for improvement as appropriate.

"What if I don’t already own property?"

Benson Builders offers a number of build to suit options on lakefront property we currently own. In addition, we are also the only preferred builder for the 185 lot Clearwater Lake Development located just south of Eagle River. We have an excellent working relationship with all of the local real estate professionals to expand your search beyond the Multiple Listing Service. Our staff would be happy to assist with your land search to select a property that is best suited for the home you wish to build.

"Do you have someone that can help with selections?"

Our in-house design consultant is available throughout the process to make certain that you have the help you need making selections and keeping to the build schedule.
